Yesterday the girls went to Children's for their Neonatology developmental check-up. Pearl didn't sleep the night before which means I didn't sleep the night before . It has been awhile since I functioned on 3 hours of sleep. Anyway, both girls were fabulous! We had to rush out because after two hours there and 30 minutes past their nap time, we couldn't wait for the paperwork. They are going to send it to me so I will try and remember what they said. Pearl weighed a whopping 20 lbs 4 oz. and was 32.5 inches long. Malorie was 23 lbs and 9 oz. and was 33inches tall. Pearl was on the chart!! It was amazing. She has never been on the chart. She was in the 10% for weight but still - she made it on the chart!! Malorie was in the 50th for everything so that was great.
As for development, they both are doing fabulous! There are no concerns at all for either of them. They scored in the 50% and 60% (for the real age) for communication and cognitive abilities. Their gross and fine motor skills were in the 30% which is still average so they were not concerned at all. It was funny how both girls came out so similar when I think Pearl is much more of a fine motor skill, cognitive child and Malorie much more verbal, gross motor skill child. I am just thrilled they were such troopers and performed so well. It was risky with a noon appointment time!
They will continue to be followed by Children's for up to the next four years because they were born so early. Technically, they are 28 weekers so they qualify to be watched in the Developmental Disabilities Clinic at Children's. They assured me the name meant nothing and it wasn't due to how they did at their assessment that they would continue to follow them. Actually, I am thrilled as I think Children's does a fabulous job and I like having them checking on us. They won't see us for another year and it is simply to screen for common issues with children born that early (attention, behaviors, ADHD, etc.) To celebrate our successful outing, we played dress up when we got home.
Pearl chose Buzz Lightyear.
Malorie chose the dino costume. She refused to take it off and it was so stinking cute on her. This is everyone watching Sam outside with his hunting friends.
My little pterodactyl
The girls loved this toy in the waiting room at the hospital.
Sam took Miles hunting while the girls and I were gone. He got his own fake gun to take. He was pretty excited. They sat in the bed of the truck and looked for deer for an hour and then went to lunch. He thought he was pretty big stuff!
