Yesterday, the girls had their head ultrasounds to check for bleeding in the brain. We were very nervous but luckily, there doesn't seem to be anything concerning in the results! Both girls are now on CPAP. Malorie is currently on room oxygen and doing well. Pearl was on the ventilator until Friday and is currently doing pretty well on the CPAP. She had a rocky start but is now doing well at 28% oxygen.
With their respiratory issues calming down, they are finally trying to work on feedings. Malorie is currently being fed 4 ml every three hours and is doing okay. Sometimes she can't digest it all but sometimes it is fine. It is a work in progress. Pearl just started being fed 1 ml every three hours on Saturday. She is doing okay. Sometimes she pushes her food back out which amazes the nurses as she pushes more out than they put in! She already is showing her little personality as she is "feisty". She likes to scoot down in her bed and pull at her cords. This was her temperament in the womb as well. They could never get her to stay on the monitor but Malorie was always in the same place and pretty calm. We will see if this is the case in a few months!
I finally got to hold Pearl on Sunday. They wanted to wait until she was stable on her CPAP. It was a long wait. I got to hold Malorie two days after she was born.
Malorie is snoozing on her tummy. She weighed 2 lbs. 15 oz. as of Sunday.
Pearl lost her paci which is as big as her. She weighed 2 lbs. 2 oz. as of Sunday.
They are so cute! Best of luck to you.

ReplyDeleteThere's a woman in Creative at the Tribune who was just over 1 pound when she was born . . . 57 years ago. Medical miracles and feisty Fawcett girls are a good combination.

Well, having a snowday enabled me to join the followers. I picked out a special pic and I know the girls will love it. I love the blog. I go into it everyday to check up on them. They are so cute. I know this must be wearing you out, but they know what they are doing there. How very nerve racking, but how wonderful that they are both here and doing fine. Can hardly wait for them both to get their CPAP's off. Aunt Eva
